Files and Sharing

A public link needs no account. The note under the setting reads "Anyone with a link can open it. No sign in."

On iJewel Design, a Private model opens only for you. To share a model with a client by link, set it to Unlisted.

How do I delete files, and why does my usage not go down?

  1. Right-click a file and select Move to bin. To delete many files, select them together first. You can delete up to 1000 files at one time. The files move to the Bin.
  2. Open the Bin. Right-click a file and select Delete for good, or select Empty bin to delete all files in the bin.

Your plan limits the number of models, not megabytes. To see the count, open Settings, then select Storage and uploads. The Models tile on the What you use card shows the count. A file in the bin still holds a slot. The count goes down after Delete for good or Empty bin.

If the number does not change, log out and log in again.

On a personal plan, delete or move the files in a folder before you delete the folder.

How do I copy my iJewel Design projects to iJewel Platform?

A model that you upload on one website does not show on the other website. For what each website is for, see Account and Login.

Step 1 of 3
  1. On ijewel3d.com, open Settings, then select Apps, embed and API.
  2. Find the iJewel Design Sync card.
  3. Select Sync now. Then enter your iJewel Design password.

The sync copies each project and its preview image into a folder on iJewel Platform.

Can I get my original 3DM or STL file back?

Only if Auto convert to GLB was off when you uploaded the file. With Auto convert to GLB on, iJewel Platform keeps the converted file and not your original file. The switch is in Settings, on the Storage and uploads tab.

If a file is not in its folder, look in the Bin first.

How does search find my files?

Search finds a file when the text that you type is part of the file name or part of a tag. Search looks in the current folder and in its subfolders.

What is a template in the share dialog?

A template makes a share link that opens the model on your own website. Open Share on a file. On the Link tab, select Link templates. Add the address of your viewer page, with MODEL_ID where the file ID goes. For example:

https://yoursite.com/viewer?id=MODEL_ID

iJewel Platform replaces MODEL_ID with the ID of the file in each share link.

Are new uploads public or private?

A new upload is private. Only you can open it. To make files public:

Step 1 of 3
  1. Select the files.
  2. Open Share.
  3. On the Link tab, set Who can open the links to Anyone with the link.
Step 1 of 4
  1. Open Share on the model.
  2. On the Link tab, set Who can open the links to Anyone with the link. The client does not need an account or software.
  3. Copy the Viewer link and send it to the client. The Viewer link is for clients. The Drive link is for your team.
  4. Keep Allow download off if the client must not download the file.

With Restricted, the link opens only for you and for the people that you added, after they sign in. The Viewer link is off while access is Restricted.

To protect the model data more, see How do I protect a model with a password?.

What do Public, Unlisted and Private mean?

These three settings are for iJewel Design.

SettingWho can see the model
PublicEveryone. It shows in the iJewel Design feed, on your profile and in search.
UnlistedAnyone with the link. It does not show in the feed or on your profile.
PrivateOnly you.

The number of unlisted designs depends on your iJewel Design plan: 20 on Free, 100 on Premium and 250 on Advanced. Public designs have no limit.

On iJewel Platform, a file is Restricted or open to Anyone with the link. See How do I send a client a view-only link with no sign-in?.

A share link shows the model in the viewer. Download is off for each file. To let people download a file, open Share and turn on Allow download on the Link tab.

Who owns my files and my renders?

You own the models that you upload and the images and videos that you export. See Licensing for the full terms. Your files are private until you share them.

How do I protect a model with a password?

Step 1 of 3
  1. Drop the file on your folder.
  2. In the upload window, turn on Password encryption.
  3. Enter a password.

A person who opens the link must enter the password. Write the password down: only a person with the password can open the file, and the iJewel3D team has no copy of it.

To add a password to a file that is already uploaded, open Share on the file. In the Link tab, under Password encryption, select Encrypt a copy, enter a password, and select Encrypt copy. The platform adds an encrypted copy that asks for the password. The original file stays.

Password encryption shows only if your plan includes encryption. It works for GLB, glTF, OBJ, FBX, STL and 3DM models.

More › Make protected is different. It makes an encrypted copy with no password. The copy opens only in iJewel viewers. See Protected files.

To remove the password, see Can I remove the encryption.

Folders and moving files

  • Make a folder: click Add New → New Folder.
  • Move a file: drag it onto a folder, or onto a folder name in the path at the top.

A moved file keeps its ID. All share links and embeds of the file keep working.

The default settings of a folder do not apply to my files

Right-click a folder and select Edit default settings to set the scene settings for the files in it. These settings apply to files that have no settings of their own.

A file that you saved in Playground or in the editor keeps its own settings. To make such a file use the folder settings, right-click the file and select Clear 3D Settings.

Files and share links on iJewel Platform stay until you delete the file.

A link that expires after 7 days is a temporary link from the Rhino plugin or from the temporary save in Playground. To keep a model, save it to your account.

How do I change the preview image of a model?

Right-click the file and select Update Thumbnail. The viewer makes a new preview image from the current view of the model.

My file was renamed, or the name was refused

  • A file name must be unique in its folder. If you upload a file with a name that exists, select Keep both files to keep both. The new file gets (1) before the file extension.
  • The text after the last dot is the file type. If your file name has dots in it, for example 2.25.3dm, keep the real file extension at the end.

My model looks different in the viewer than in Playground

Upload the file with Auto convert to GLB off, so the scene settings from Playground stay with the file.

A GLB file that I downloaded has lost its materials

A GLB file holds the model and its basic materials. The scene settings, for example the environment and the ground, are in the scene settings file. In Playground, export the model and the scene settings together. Drop both files on Playground to get the full look back.

iJewel Design: how do I set the category of a model?

Select the category in the upload window, or open the model and select it in the model settings. The tabs on your profile show one category each.

iJewel Design: my Unlisted models are not in "All"

The All tab shows your public models. Unlisted models are under the Unlisted tab.

Make the file public. Then right-click the file and select Copy Download Link. The link opens the file itself, for use in your own viewer or code.
