Protected files
A protected file is an encrypted copy of a model, and it shows correctly only on ijewel3d.com.
A protected file is an encrypted copy of your model. Encryption protects the 3D data itself, not only the link to the file.
How a file becomes protected
| Method | Where | Result |
|---|---|---|
| Make protected | The right-click menu of a file, under More | The platform duplicates the file and encrypts the duplicate. Your original file stays. |
| Protect on upload | The upload settings | The platform encrypts the file when you upload it. |
When you select Make protected, a confirmation shows the text The file will be duplicated and encrypted.
A protected file opens only in iJewel viewers. A downloaded copy cannot be opened in other software. A protected file has no password. To make a copy that asks for a password, use Password encryption in the Link tab of the Share window.
Make protected does not show for a folder. It also does not show for a file that is protected already. You need edit rights for the file.
Model Encryption is a plan feature. Refer to Plans and limits.
Where a protected file shows
A protected file shows correctly only on ijewel3d.com. On your own domain, the model can look scrambled. The shapes and the material options are then wrong.
If you need the model on your own domain
Use a file that is not protected. You have two options:
- Use the original file. Make protected made a duplicate, and the original stays in your files.
- Upload the model again with Protect on upload off.
Access rules and encryption
Encryption does not change who can open a file. Refer to Who can see my files for the access rules.
