Metal, two-tone and halo options on one model
Add metal choices, two-tone choices and halo choices to one model in Playground.
One model can hold more than one set of options. The Material Configurator changes a material. The Object Configurator shows one object and hides the others.
Before you start
- Open the model in Playground.
- Give each metal part its own material name. To do this, put the parts on different layers in your CAD software. See Layers and names.
- For halo options, put each version in the same model file as a different object.
Add metal options
Step 1 of 5
- Click the metal part in the canvas.
- At the top of the canvas, click Add Configurator. A material library opens.
- Click each metal that you want as an option.
- Look at the bar at the bottom of the canvas. Each metal shows there as a thumbnail.
- To remove a metal, click it again in the library.
All 5 steps are done.
The name of the option set comes from the material name of the part.
Add two-tone options
A two-tone ring has two metal parts. Each part gets its own option set.
Step 1 of 4
- Click the first metal part. Then do the steps in "Add metal options".
- Click the second metal part. Then do the same steps again.
- To change the name of an option set, right-click the name and select Edit.
- Type a clear name, for example "Band" or "Head".
All 4 steps are done.
The customer can then select one metal for each part.
Keep the material names
An option set finds its part by the material name. If you change a material name later, the option set does not work.
Add halo options
Step 1 of 3
- Model each version as a different object, for example a head with a halo and a head without a halo.
- Keep all versions in one file.
- Set up the options with the Object Configurator. That page has a video of the steps.
All 3 steps are done.
File size
All versions load together, so the file becomes larger. This method is good for 2 to 5 versions.
