Video export is slow
Make a video export from Playground faster with lower anti-aliasing, resolution and frame rate.
Symptom
- A video export from Playground takes 10 minutes or more.
- The red border stays on the canvas for a long time.
Cause
Playground renders each frame of the video. Then it converts the frames to a video file. High anti-aliasing together with a custom background is the usual cause. A high resolution and a high frame rate add more work.
Fix
Step 1 of 7
- In the Anti-Aliasing settings, reduce the Progressive frame count to 4 or 8.
- Lower the export resolution.
- Reduce FPS. A value of 24 is often sufficient for a turntable video.
- In the Export tab, set Mime type to MP4 Video (ffmpeg).
- Open FFmpeg Options (Advanced) and set preset to
veryfast. - Keep the browser tab open until the export is complete. Do not go to a different tab.
- Export a short test clip first. Then export the full video.
All 7 steps are done.
If the video file is too large, change the compression settings in FFmpeg Options (Advanced). See Reducing the video file size.
Video with a transparent background
MP4 video has no transparency. A PNG snapshot keeps the transparency when the background is transparent.
