Units and scale
Set your CAD file to millimetres at real size before you upload it to the iJewel platform.
The iJewel platform reads the size of your model from the file. Make the model in millimetres, at the real size of the piece. A model in the wrong units loads much too large or much too small.
Before you start
- You have the model open in Rhino or in a different CAD tool.
- You know the real size of the piece.
Set the units in Rhino
Step 1 of 3
- Type
Unitsin the Rhino command line. - Set the model units to Millimeters.
- Save the file.
All 3 steps are done.
Check the size
Step 1 of 4
- Measure the model across its width.
- Compare the result with the real piece. A ring is usually 15 mm to 25 mm across.
- If the size is wrong, scale the model to the real size.
- Export the file again.
All 4 steps are done.
A ring in inches
A ring that you draw in inches loads about 25 times too large.
Know what the upload options do
The upload settings have two options that change the size and the position of a model. The two options are on by default.
| Option | Effect |
|---|---|
| Auto centre | The platform centers the model on the axis. |
| Auto scale | The platform scales the model automatically. |
When you upload parts into a ring configurator, the platform sets these two options to off. Each part then keeps the size and the position from its file. Thus the units in each part file must be correct.
